Mother Lode Beaded Necklace

February 19, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

Skirt in the KitchenIt's meant to hang this way.  It doesn't slip and slide on its own because there are small beads containing the smallest holes on both sides of a large button so that it acts like a brake in holding the necklace in place for its overall look.  This is what's neat about this necklace-- the lopsidedness.  It makes it cool.  It's got a … [Read more...]

Chili BBQ Beef

February 19, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

Skirt in the KitchenBring beef to room temperature, rinse and blot-dry on both sides and ends for seasonings to adhere.  Keep the fat located in its places for flavoring the meat more than anything else.  When meat is cooked and cooled enough, remove all the fat when shredding it-- easy to find.Season with coarse salt and McCormick Grill Mates Spicy Montreal Steak … [Read more...]

Small Bubbles

February 17, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

I've started writing on Dirty Dishes again (inside 'pages', located on the last of the titles).  I transferred it into hide-mode, into rough-draft because it's called Dirty Dishes for a good reason-- It's personal.  I'm a writer so I'm going to write regardless of what some people think and say, regardless of some nasty e-mails I tend to get from time to time. … [Read more...]

Susan Nuyt (Short Video Clips) “Turn It Off”

February 15, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

This video preferred-- over this one...  but this song-- better. This one-- "Turn It Off", my third selection, is what I chose for my very first clip.  I like the clattering of dishes and the news on in the morning in the background.  This one had the look and feel of a "greasy spoon café".  And, actually, this is what I said:  "Alright, you … [Read more...]

Baking Brioche

February 12, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

When you look at a bowl of brown eggs with the sunlight on them through a window, it gives you a warm feeling-- like Spring, new birth, nice weather, the immediate image in your mind of chickens happily pecking in grass that is so green-- It's a thought of all things good.  And if you really think about it, the foods made with eggs seem mostly cooked for comfort … [Read more...]

Broccoli Chili Stir-Fry with Tofu

February 11, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

I like to eat this cold, absolutely chilled in the refrigerator before I plan to have it for a meal.  The flavors are much better; I just think it's better after it's chilled and eaten later.  Blanching the broccoli  aids in its keep. Not to have mushy and discolored vegetables, blanche broccoli and leave set in iced water while preparing spices and seasoning into … [Read more...]

Fluffy Cornmeal Pancakes

February 9, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

The joy of pancakes:  Having a variety, made differently in flavor and in a number of ways-- never boring.  For cornmeal pancakes, this recipe happens to be the only cornmeal pancake recipe I use now.  If coarse grain cornmeal, the batter needs to cook in the microwave a little longer than 60 seconds.  adapted from Cook's Country (watch … [Read more...]

Hershey’s Chocolate Cake

February 9, 2014 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

I think this is the very best chocolate cake-- ever.  Hershey's, the name itself, says it all-- 80 years.  It's what our grandmothers made, baked, served, and won hearts over time and time again from any in-law squabble or silent treatment there could ever have been!  It was most likely done and smoothed over with this cake for dessert after a meal that only the dishes were … [Read more...]
