You Don’t Have to Look Like a Grandmother Just Because You Are

November 3, 2012 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

There’s nothing wrong with “holding the clock”– Susan Nuyt, “Grandmother”…

We’re not our grandmothers, not that ((that)) was ever a bad thing.  We have it made as women now–  more than ever before.  We can still bake the cookies, give out the hugs and words of encouragement, still be there for our families, hold down jobs and careers, and still look as young as we still want to be.  We can have good health, and be the picture of it.  Who made the rule that we have to wear the long skirts that nearly touch our ankles, let our hair grow gray, throw out the makeup, and wear the girdles??  We can still be fit, be content in our skin and know that we are women– young and determined.  We still have our dreams, our goals, as well as our achievements while clinging to our faith and beliefs.  Don’t stifle us, don’t begin to try– we’ve still got far to go.

Not only do we give our thanks to the women who have gone before us, but to our mothers and grandmothers who lived that time, who were the young women who broke the “old” mold of grandmotherhood/motherhood/womanhood– who wanted something more– we’re the new grandmas, still a part of them.
