Bird’s Nest

September 14, 2013 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

Authentically made, flung off a tree from the wind, found the next morning on a cement slab…  Nature is enjoyable in all seasons but it seems to come to life more fully in the fall, not only in the spring– just with bold colors.  Even though summer is at a close and Fall is setting in, there’s nothing more beautiful and natural as this.

It’s well-crafted, a bowl formation, seemingly having a bird design on the bottom just how the twigs and vines are wrapped and put in place by a bird’s ingenuity.  It’s obviously made from the vines, stems and leaves of my spring and summer plants.  Smart creatures, they are, and always busily at work.

I like the design in the bottom of this jar, the cut, and the reflection it makes on the cement.

Carefully handled with gloves, it will be ideal for this jar, gently squishing the sides of the nest to fit inside the rim of the glass.

A lid loosely fits on the top and the glass handle is uneven, making it have a neater look to its individuality.

It’s a nest that my daughter found while playing outdoors today, and she will have it into adulthood– something that will still be intact that will bring back a good memory of this day for her.  It’s too naturally beautiful, too nice to toss aside or put in a burn pile, but something appreciated by a little girl who loves nature and enjoys her childhood.

Skirt in the Kitchen, always authentic
