Fried Sweet Potatoes w/Onions & Russets

September 26, 2010 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

Let it be Fall.  Welcome the season with foods of Fall, cool winds, colored leaves, harvest moon, treats to bake, decorations to make.  It’s Halloween ’round the corner.  And it’s Fall.  If you’re like me, you have to begin the process early.
Our house in town is known as, “the Halloween House.”  It’s on the corner and I usually put up a tall large dead tree limb with its branches stretched widely out, spray-painted black, fallen from the previous winter’s storm when ice snapped it down to the ground as though Old Man Winter knew I would want a new tree for my Halloween House.   When Halloween is over, it goes into the burn pile.
I line it with lights, hang spider web throughout, and attach decorations going all the way to the top.  The ladder does not reach.   We carefully stand it up after decorating it, securing it and its base to the ground, just so it does not fall into the street as it did two years ago.  We also had pranksters who took it down in the night that year, a second fall.  But they carefully rested it along the side of our house, not in the street.  It was hard work preparing it, having to take the time to install it and secure it, only for it to be intentionally taken apart.  But we built it over– again.  My husband and I were furious that we made it even better, larger, tighter.  It stood taller than our two-story house, taller than the roof.   We even put a moon on the very top.   The winds could not break it down, either; just lightly swayed.  Now, that is going forward and pressing on, no matter who wants to rain on your parade.  Lol…  I’d say we had the last laugh.
