There is power in words, good or bad; wrong or right. There’s life or death in the power of one single word. Where hope can restore, words have the power to destroy. The tongue is wicked or lined with gold where words can be purposeful, pure and lovely.
Words can offer reward, value, high honor… They can undo what has been taken if given the chance to be heard. Words are meant to be said. They ache to be understood. Words hold the key to the heart of every mouth that is sealed. The soul seeks refuge through words, unspoken or not. It craves unity.
Words can make or break a person. Words can ruin or mend a nation. Words can divide or keep a family together. Words can give power to a device, an addiction, the absence of eternal life–or do the very opposite: Protect, nourish, value, forgive, love and support… to be fruitful and live abundantly.
Words are strong.
Words can say, “I love you” or they can easily blurt, “I hate you” without being said. They are all-knowing through the heart. Words are spoken even when they are not, when they are deprived of being said–perhaps out of fear, out of doubt, out of resentment and anger, out of longing. It can take years for words to be given opportunity to be heard, to be adequately listened to for understanding and healing.
Words can be the center of love.
Words are oftentimes spoken in fabrication, planted for a secondary tongue; planned and set to be said by someone who has more strength to say words that were chosen out of deception from its original place. The holders of words may not agree, but the strength and power of the very mouth that originally devised a plan to say the words, becomes the one with control. Words are then a device of evil.
We live through words.
We choose to recall, to remember, to recount words. More times than not, there is a natural tendency to think of words that bother us, the negative over the positive that are used internally as a weapon–a sword or a knife–because the devil knows how powerful words are. We can be scapegoated by the darkness; played upon by needless guilt, low self esteem, discord, self hatred… But in God’s Word, the very Word of God was spoken before other words were said in the universe, before mankind was created, before words could be misconstrued and dicarded or held securely to limit a productive life. We have the choice to choose words that can make us whole and give us life, abundant life, even in the midst of storms–through hard, difficult times–words that can take and bring us forth as gold, purposeful, pure and lovely vessels.
The power of words can lead us to peace, to true understanding and abiding love that never leaves the side of loyalty. Speak words to live. Speak words that nourish. Choose unity over division if just with one word, if only in a whisper.
