I want something quick, simple, and straight to the point. It’s hot outside, and I’ve got a stack of to-dos clear across the board. You know what I’m saying–so much on your plate of errands, tasks, and a long list of to-dos on paper that you have to follow to remember them all. I bet you’re like me.
I also want some good grub–the fattening stuff. I can live with it, like hamburger steaks in vinegar gravy. Some crazy way of throwing it together won’t hurt a bit. I want to slap it together, throw it on the table, and call it good!
Season “lean” hamburger patties with steak seasoning, and brown in a large skillet with sliced mushrooms, sliced garlic cloves, and sliced onions and peppers–all at once–convenient and easy for in a rush.
Transfer to a dish while gravy is made in the same skillet.
In the hot skillet, immediately pour in apple cider vinegar–1/2 cup or so, and then Worcestershire sauce–enough to season for taste. Stir flour into the liquid to make dry. Pour a carton of beef broth into the mixture, and use a potato masher to rid flour lumps. For this, the meat drippings, small bits and pieces, are okay–actually, necessary. Taste the gravy for possible need of salt and pepper. I like to put steak seasoning in the gravy, also.
Place the beef patties, onions, and peppers, back into the skillet of gravy. Serve over toast. This might be “fattening” but it’s still on the line of “healthy”. On a night like this evening, it’s whatever can be put together really quick that is filling and good!
