It’s been out for a while so it took me a while to see this, and I finally got the chance to watch it. I will watch it a second time, possibly a third time. It was that good. I liked the sisterhood in this movie, the tight bond that the sisters and cousins had with each other and with their families. I also loved their music, the singing sensation in their voices. This movie displayed raw (truthful) emotions, humor, the romance of the time, bickering and discontentment among each other to fit into one “happy” family as well as discovering their individualities. It’s about love lost and retrieved when all hope seemed to be diminished in a time of our American History when so much animosity took place during the Vietnam War that changed countries and the way that people lived their daily lives. This movie is also about growing up as a girls into a women, facing real-life issues and the stark reality of war and the affects that it brings. It is based on a personal true story, growing up as outcasts because of their race. They were transformed into confident young women who ended up leading lives saving and serving others. They became educated people, fully equipped while finding where they belonged among each other and in the world. They married and had children of their own. It depicts what faith can do in lives when there is yet a little bit of hope and ambition.
