Two Garnet Stones

Two Garnet Stones - Latta

(My daughter, Donita, had given these lovely red garnet stone earrings and necklace to me after losing my oldest son.  The garnet was my son’s birthstone.  In the top of each were three tiny diamonds.  Twice, I had lost one which would cause my tears to flow, my thoughts upon my beloved son who died.  Then, in a twinkling of an eye, there it lay–still in the darkness!  I picked up the precious stone, and now once again, I have the pair–garnet stones shaped as teardrops!  That is how precious we are to our Heavenly Father!  When we fall, God picks up his precious gems!  Amen and amen.  Our light continues to shine in a lost and dying world!)

In loving memory of my beloved son, Latta Charles Gaston Sr. (January 10, 1960 – June 26, 1998)

Two garnet stones

Shaped as teardrops,

One for each ear–

Two red garnets!

Long, long ago

When my son was born–

Two garnet stones

Shaped as teardrops!

Then he grew up

Among the tares

To find his way.

Homespun he was,

Keen to nature.

Knew his Bible!

Knew the Lord!

Two garnet stones

shaped as teardrops!

Time went on…

All sped past him

My precious son…

One cold day in June, it was–

Age thirty-eight,

A .38 pistol fired

In darkness still

Two garnet stones

shaped as teardrops!

Jesus came

Lifting my son to His Glory.

No more pain,

No more sorrow,

Safe in the arms of Jesus now–

Two garnet stones shaped as teardrops!

One for each ear,

The love of the son to his mother,

(His mother!)

Two garnet stones

shaped as teardrops

all to her son!

He awaits me!–

Across the blue to the other side,

Two garnet stones shaped as teardrops!

And when he sees me,

He’ll say, “Hi, Mom!”

He’ll pick me up and swing me around,

Just he and I!

We’ll have a lot of things to say,

My son and I!

Two garnet stones shaped as teardrops!
