Pantry Cabbage Toss

IMG_5290 Pantry Cabbage TossPantry Cabbage Toss, exclusively Skirt in the Kitchen

Why don’t we do this?  Let’s dig in the pantry again and find what we may…  It’s early brunch-you know-not morning/not noon.  I don’t want milk and cereal, not eggs and toast, either.  I want bacon, but I also want something close to lunch food that is healthy as well as something flavorful.

Why don’t you cut up the bacon into bite-size pieces to brown, and I’ll chop half a cabbage.IMG_5297 Pantry Cabbage Toss  I like it when you’re here…IMG_5292 Pantry Cabbage TossWhat I also like is how cabbage turns to a bright Easter–greenwhen it’s hot in a skillet, right at the moment when it’s still crispy-and that’s where I want it to stay.  I don’t want mushy greens.  I want there to be a slight crispiness with each bite, don’t you?IMG_5294 Pantry Cabbage TossWould you mind grabbing a small can of bamboo shoots for me? Thanks.  After we drain the liquid, I’ll sop up the water from the bamboo shoots in paper towels before adding them, just so there’s no excessive liquid that could soften the cabbage.IMG_5299 Pantry Cabbage TossWe can do the same with a drained can of cannellini beans.  We need to rinse them, first, to get the accumulative starch off them.  They have a nutty flavor.  IMG_5303 Pantry Cabbage TossI typically would say to caramelize some onion when browning the bacon,  but I don’t have a single onion in the house at the moment-so not me!  I believe it’s best to cook with fresh ingredients, but sometimes you have to substitute, so sprinkle a dash of onion powder, garlicpowder, a little bit of salt, black pepper, and paprika while I stir. IMG_5310 Pantry Cabbage TossHere you go!   Terrific-this smells great!no Cabbage Patch Kids

I love cabbage but just don’t find a way to devour its tasty flavors often enough. This Pantry Cabbage Toss is a tasty flavor and I would never toss it out. Since my teeth have limited functions to chew raw cabbage, I would probably stir-fry the whole batch just 1-2 minutes, very lightly.
I like this recipe because it is quick, easy, and tasty…Thanks !
