2014 Year in Review, exclusively Skirt in the Kitchen

Was it a good year?  Did you enjoy the seasons-all of them?  Did you live every moment to the fullest that you possibly could?  Did you plant poppy or hibiscus?  Both?Did you put poppy seed into ice cream, make it homemadewith a touch of lemon?Did you make poppy seed cakeor bake lemon poppy seed bread?Did you count stars, count your blessings,and keep them in a can to re-count when you needed to remember?Did you double-chocolate a cookie,and play with feathers in flour?  Oh, why not?Did you make a soufflé for the first time–ever?Did you look at the world in black or white, or maybe in a shade of gray?  Did you bake some cupcakes?Did you make a mess of things or did you organizationally clutter? Neither?Did you mix red balsamic into red velvet for the sassiness of it?  Were you glad that you did, that you even took a chance?Did you make your own cold cream and wear it?  Did you/do you have beautiful wrinkles?  Will you?Did you traditionally devil eggs for a cookout or did you jazz ’em upwith horseradish leavesand lettuce blooms?Did you walk through a meadow to smell the sweet scent of honeysuckle in the air?  Was the sunshine upon you?  Did you feel its warmth embrace you?Did you watch the dew on white petals fall, each drop, into blades of grass?Do you hold the key to somebody’s heart?  What would they say about you, really?  Would it be of sorrow or joy?  Mixed?  Did they give you wings, the freedom to leave?  Did your heart weep in regret?  Did you pick berries for pie?Did you have a hankering for peanut butterwith cucumber and mayonnaise?  Why would you do that?Did you moisten a cake with mayonnaise-and it actually turned out good?  How could that be?Were you chic for chickpeas?Did you cook outdoors all summer long?Did you go vintage–a little?  A lot?  Do you love the old ways, the quality of life?Did you design a garden?  Was it a jungle?Did you tend to pumpkins?Did you fry pumpkin blossoms with chicken,or did you simply nurture them for reproduction?Did you make pesto from hibiscus leaves for a really good pasta dish?Did you put together a bird seed tree with your kids?  Did you tell them the names of the birds, the colors, and the whistling sounds of the birds’ chirps?Did you harvest plenty of tomatoes to eat in hand, to can, to make into salsa, and then into tomato jam for muffins?Did you bake a peach pie?  Did you booze it up with bourbon?  Why not?  Did you bake one for the neighbors?Did you make a mean sloppy joe?Did you decorate a cake with zinnias–because you could?  Was it on the flamboyant side?Did you pick enough applesand put them to good use?Did you have dandelions with morning eggs?Did you chase butterflies?Did you enjoy moments in the sun, be a child again, and love your youth of an old age?  Were you thankful for every day…
