Molasses Crinkle Cookies

 Molasses Crinkle Cookies
~ adapted from Grandma’s ~

[Operation Skirt]

Set oven temp to 375 degrees F.
Mix together 3/4 cups softened shortening,
1/2 cup light brown sugar, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar,
 and 1/4 cup Grandma’s Molasses.
Stir in dry ingredients– 2 1/4 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1teaspoon ground ginger.  Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Roll into balls, dip into sugar.
Choose chocolate balls to insert in centers.
They’re like pearl buttons.  Lightly press fingers down onto the cookie for good formation after it’s baked.  Bake for approximately 10 minutes on parchment paper.  These will seem not done enough when it’s time to pull out of the oven, but they will be soft and finished– a moist cookie when baked just right.

These are moist if taken out of the oven at the perfect time– chewy and just like what we grew up with, what our moms and grandmothers made for us; so old-fashioned.
