Ginger Sparkler

December 27, 2012 By Susan Nuyt Leave a Comment

(Did I forget the “L”?  Sure, I did!…  those “L” s… ! — (“Da-La-Lynette” when calling for me up the stairs as a kid…  funny thinking about it now…  meaning to say Donita, Lonnie (Latta, Larry); you know how it is being a parent, you don’t always say what is on your exact mind at the time, lol, so the vowels and consonants come out scrambled!))
The new year, a new start…  make a cocktail, a good one.  Make it worth living, worth the work and trouble of ringing in a new good year.  Make it your oyster, your very best year.

Ginger Sparkler
~ adapted from Martha Stewart ~

In a small saucepan, heat 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup water, and 2 teaspoons finely grated ginger.  Thicken into a syrup.   Can be stored up to 1 week for use.

Put through a sieve and stain it into a good fine stream.

In the bottom of a glass, add 1 tablespoon of the ginger liquid, topping it off with dry white wine– Cava, Prosecco, or sparkling champagne– stir to perfection.  Better drink coffee, instead; this is heavy for a lightweight.  You will be tipsy-turvey before you’re through with the first drink– or the second.
